Nexus One Slow 3D Gallery on Android Froyo (2.2) [Solved]
If you’re like many of the numerous people having issues with the 3D Gallery application on Android becoming very slow with the recent-ish upgrade to Android 2.2 then, I’m sorry to say, there’s not much else you can do other than factory-reset your phone (it’s bold so you don’t have to read the rest of this unnecessarily long post…).
I tried all the solutions I could find. From clearing the phone’s cache, force-reinstalling the application and even removing all the media to try to get it to start-over. Nothing worked.
Then I realised that factory-resetting my phone wouldn’t be such a big deal; I’ve only downloaded a handful of free applications and it wouldn’t be a catastrophe if the data was lost. All my contacts are stored on Facebook or Google Contacts and I could easily backup/restore my SMS messages using a nice little app called, unsurprisingly, SMS Backup (by Michele Valentini).
I then performed a factory-reset and, to my relief, didn’t have to wait for the OTA upgrade to Froyo as, upon reset, I was presented with a clean installation of the Froyo OS. I then proceeded to restore my accounts, SMS and a few dozen photos and videos. Finally, the gallery app is once again performing well.
Even when I connect a USB cable.

Ouch :-/ I have this problem with my phone. I have less than 20 pics in the gallery, but it takes forever to list them. Have had the phone for only a week, so I guess I could survive with this solution (which will hopefully solve the problem for me, also)
My phone became slow after the upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2. Did you receive the upgrade since you got the phone?
No, I haven’t received any upgrades. Bought my phone last wednesday, it has Android 2.2, softwareversion 2.10.405.2, build 2.10.405.2 CL226611, it says. When I check for updates, the phone tells me there are no updates. I downloaded a gallery-application from the market (Gallery 3D? I’m not sure, in Norwegian it just says “Galleri”), and that one was also very slow, until the thumbnails was in place. After that, it works just fine, but of course, it will be slow again for a while a I add new pictures.
I’m not sure about the Gallery 3D app in the Market, I’m using the stock app that comes with Android 2.2 with the same name, which may be the same thing.
It’s normal for the gallery to be slower after connecting the USB cable and adding new media – usually takes ~3 seconds to re-sync the first time it loads. Adding new photos from the camera, however, seems to have no effect on performance; new media is detected and opens up instantly.
Let me know if a factory reset helps. It’s not an ideal solution, if a solution at all, but it’s all that worked for me!
I actually tried this when I first updated my phone to Froyo.
For a time it was good, but within a couple of days it started messing up again.
It’s been like that since July or so. I’ve just dealt with it this entire time…
